Thailand Part Two : Karon Cliffs and Cycling Big Buddah

My wife arranged a quick four day stay in Phuket. At first I was a little reluctant because I never really enjoyed the whole beach life gig. Thankfully she ignored me and booked our flights out of Bangkok because I definitely had one of the best trips of my life. Phuket is incredible. thai_pt2_01

Air Asia sucks but at least we found a deal online and got two round trip tickets for a little over 100 bucks. For that price they could have stuck me in cargo hold for all I care.

I found my bike box on the baggage claim carousel completely open! Ridiculous. Thankfully nothing really got damaged except for my fenders which are now useless. Good thing I brought a large roll of duct tape.

This box has taken a beating.

This box has taken a beating. I am looking forward to seeing how it looks towards the end of the trip!

We stayed at the Secret Cliff Resort which sits on top of the Karon Cliffs sandwiched between Koran and Patong beach. Despite the traffic the moutanous landscape makes Phuket a cycling mecca.

I had my eye set on climbing to see the Big Buddah which is a 45m high statue made of Burmese marble. The climb to the top of the mountain was very challenging with 20 % grades and higher. Everyone I spoke to and all the information I found online stated that this was no easy climb.

This pier was stunning with stairs at the end that led right into the warm waters.

The roads leading up to the Big Buddah were insane. I am stoked I was able to make it up.
