Portland Short Track Race 4

Portland_Short_Track_4-29-of-70.jpg

Race number 4 of the Portland Short Track is a wrap. It was hot hot hot. I mean seriously it was hot as hell out there. The organizers did another great job of designing the course this week. It was technical and loose. I took the hole shot in the U35 Cat 2 field which I held for no more than a quarter of a lap. Its the little things right. Below are some photos from the Elite men + Elite women's race. It's inspiring to watch these men and women race and I am looking forward to the next one.

Andrew Coe rode flawlessly in the last couple of laps leaving the rest of the field to try and chase him down.

The Elite + Cat 1 women were killing it on this loose course laying down smooth lines and showing some true grit.

I think we can all agree that Ten Speed Hero makes some of the best kits in the cycling industry.

I am sure Josh Kelley is not happy settling for third. Looking forward to seeing how this guy shreds in the next couple of races. Heal up man!

The Portland Short Track Series is a mountain bike race held at the Portland International Raceway starting in June through early August. This is my first year attending and I signed up for a series pass to make sure I didn't come up with some excuse to not go. Commitment is everything. Here is a description of the course :

"All races will be held on the infield of PIR. The course - which we will change up every week - is a combination of grassy flats, twisty singletrack (under the trees), and rolling dirt track (on the motocross course). The typical lap distance is about 1.0 mile and racers will do multiple laps for the duration of their race. The elevation gain per lap is 20 to 40 ft."

I am not a racer and I don't enjoy rubbing elbows fighting for the hole shot. I grew up racing BMX and I got that competitive spirit beat out of me at a very young age. So why race? Short Track is something rad I can do after work on Monday, hang out with my friends, meet new people and be apart of a rad community. I always cross the finish line with a smile.

You can learn more about the event on Portland Racings website. If your in the Portland area this is the best event you could be doing on a Monday night. Come out and support.
